Melissani Lake
Take a boat ride through the magical Melissani Lake, a natural underground lake cave.
Guide Story: “Legend has it that this lake was the home of the nymph Melissani, who fell in love with the god Pan. The sunlight streaming through the cave’s opening creates an otherworldly blue glow—it’s no wonder this was named one of Europe’s most beautiful places by Condé Nast Traveler.”
Droggarati Cave
More than 300 years ago, a strong earthquake revealed the entrance to a miracle of nature: Drogarati Cave, a work of art, an astonishing marvel of more than 150 million years old, crafted gradually by nature. Orange and yellow stalactites hang from the roof like curtains while vitreous stalagmites emerge to form spacious chambers.
Monastery of St. Gerasimos
We arrive in the Monastery of St. Gerasimos, the patron saint of the island. The Monastery of Agios (St.) Gerasimos is the most holy Church of the island. It is build located in the village Omala, at the top of the green valley with 40 wells, near the villages Fragata and Balsamata. His remains rest in a silver coffin inside the old monastery and you can also visit his cave where he lived for five years, leading a strict ascetic life.
Robola Winery
Visit the traditional Robola winery where you will have the chance to taste different types of wines and get to know the maturing process of the famous local Robola wine.
St. George’s Caste
The Fortress of Agios Georgios is located at the village of Peratata on a 300 m altitude and was probably constructed during the 12th century AD by Byzantine Emperors. It’s about 16.000 m2 and its surrounding walls are approximately 600 m long. Inside the walls there were public and private buildings, churches, food and ammunition warehouses, barracks, hospitals, prisons and water tanks.
